■ Patients Resistant to Antidepressants Show Different Brainwaves
[Health Chosun – by Choi Ji-woo] About 30% of depression patients do not respond to antidepressant treatments. However, current treatment methods often involve prescribing medication first and trying alternative drugs if the initial treatment proves ineffective. This process can lead to significant time and financial burdens for patients.
To address this issue, Professor Seung-hwan Lee’s team from the Department of Psychiatry at Ilsan Paik Hospital analyzed the brainwaves (EEG) of depression patients. They aimed to measure brain neural network functions and identify brainwave signals that could predict responsiveness to antidepressants.
